Benidorm – Only a Day Trip Away!

The world famous Costa Blanca resort of Benidorm is only a 40 minute drive south of Gandía on the AP7 motorway.  With its famous beaches, luxury hotels and a wealth of cafés, restaurants and bars, not only is there something for everyone during the day, but of course its nightlife is also renowned, centred on the still picturesque Old Town.

Family entertainment is in plentiful supply as well, with a wide variety of attractions and theme parks to suit all tastes, ages and interests.  For those that are seeking a thrill-packed day, an outing toTerraMitica must be top of the list.  There are different themed areas within the park (Egypt, Rome, Greece, the Islands, Iberia) with different rides in each section, ranging from gentle children’s attractions to heart-stopping, high-speed roller coaster rides.  Refreshment areas and restaurants are to be found all over the park as well, so you can easily make a visit here an all-day event.

MundoMar is a wonderful and entertaining theme park to visit also, and in contrast to Terra Mitica offers an altogether more tranquil day out.  With a huge variety of animal, bird and marine life to see, there is a world-famous dolphin show to be enjoyed also, as well as a hugely entertaining sea-lion attraction.  If your interests are more inclined towards birds and parrots, then the performing parrot show should not be missed either.  Something for everyone is to be found here, and again plenty of refreshment areas and restaurants to see you through the day.

Adjacent to Mundo Mar,AquaLandia is a huge water park with chutes, rides and waterslides to suit every age, where you can truly discover the daredevil within us all!  Joint entry tickets can be purchased for Aqualandia and Mundo Mar, so part of the day can be spent in one park, and the rest of the day in the other.  The car park is shared, so you can just walk from one park to the other.  An added bonus at both these parks is the fabulous views right across the bay, as they are situated on higher ground above the town at the Levante end.

Situated close to Terra Mitica is the animal park ofTerraNatura, where there are over 1,500 species of animals spread over an area of 320,000sq.m. for you to enjoy and learn about.  The park is divided into different areas according to the continents, with appropriate animals to be seen in each one.  Their approach is one that they call “Zooinmersion” – whereby you should be able to have the feeling that you are as close to the animals as possible, with an absolute minimum of obtrusive barriers to spoil your enjoyment and involvement.  There is a strong emphasis on conservation and protection of endangered species, and a truly wonderful, enjoyable and educational day can be had by the whole family.  As a break from viewing the animals, you can also make use of the water park area within Terra Natura, where again there is something for everyone – water chutes, children’s pools, and a submarine world with an underwater walkway to view Mediterranean species of sea life.

Whatever your reason for taking a trip to Benidorm, there must surely be an attraction to suit every taste, age and level of activity.  World-famous as a holiday destination for party-lovers and sun-worshippers, Benidorm has a lot more to offer than just bars, beaches and sangria – and all this is just 40 minutes away from the tranquility of the mountains and orange groves awaiting you upon your return to the Gandía area!

  • Spanish property news: good for buyers, terrible for sellers February 21, 2012
So, 2011 was officially the worst year for property sales since the Spanish property crash began in early 2008.  Sales were down 20% compared to 2010, which means they were almost 60% down from the halcyon days of 2007. Of course, this is no surprise given the parlous nature of the Spanish economy and the […]
